Jenin Directorate Announces: Completion of Preparations for Action Week Activities As part of the National Campaign for Education in Palestine

Palestinian newspapers dated April 7th, 2009 including the Al-Ayam,Wafa, PPI and Maan shared with Palestinians the completion of preparations for activities of the Jenin District for the Action Week   
The director of the Jenin Directorate, Mrs. Salam El-Taher, announced the completion of the preparations for the activities planned for the Action Week in Jenin District, (April 20-26, 2009), part of the Global Campaign for Education

She confirmed the importance of the global campaign and the participation of Palestine in the activities, which this year emphasizes Adult literacy under the slogan “Open Books, Open Doors”

Mrs. Taher indicated that the Ministry of Education has emphasized the importance of participation of all directorates and has assisted in providing financial support in addition to what the Teacher Creativity Center, the coordinator of the Palestinian coalition, has offered to make this event significant and possible

The event will be possible through the coordinated work of different departments of the Ministry of Education including the general education, the activities and others departments.

The morning announcement in schools for the entire week of the campaign will cover the subject of the campaign. This is in addition to many other activities implemented in schools as in art, poetry and other competitions focusing on the campaign slogan and content

The Jenin district will conduct a central activity on April 22nd, 2009 with participation of official organizations and community organizations and the involvement of the largest number of politicians and decision makers in the district along with a big media campaign one week prior to the event.

Mr. Majid Darawshah, the head of the education department, shared that there are 7 centers for illiteracy eradication in the directorate which receive a good number of people especially women. He pointed that the joint efforts among official organizations including the Ministry of Education and civil society organizations including the Teacher Creativity Center will have a strong impact in success of the campaign

Mr. Jarar, TCC coordinator in the north spoke of the great efforts and cooperation that made the preparation for the activities that will take place in Jenin District possible. He shared hopes of the campaign bringing attention to literacy in Palestine in a new way that is greater than the traditional concept of ability to right and read simple sentences but develops into concepts that
