Empowerment of Parents Councils in Their Role in Enhancing the School Environment

The Teacher Creativity Center (TCC) in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education and funded by the Welfare Association completed two 4 training sessions held in Ramallah during the months of January and February 2009, targeting 60 parents council members from 20 parents councils distributed over the West Bank
The training sessions were opened with words from personnel from the Ministry of Education and the Teacher Creativity Center with an emphasis on how the existing strong relationship between them has made the work on parents councils which is in its third year a success

The objectives of the training sessions were to build the capacity of parents councils in many areas including council management, recruiting and training of parents, addressing issues in schools through implementation of rights based projects and design of simple but clear proposals on how to resolve the addressed issues.

The trainings involved a participatory approach and an education on human rights in general and children’s rights in particular especially in education, methodologies in implementing projects in a systematic and effective way.

The trainees will implement workshops to increase awareness of parents in their role in promoting safe democratic school environments and implement projects in schools with the participation of parents
