Deir Ammar Students Demand Establishment of a Sports and Culture Club
Ramallah- as part of the citizenship education project, implemented by the Teacher Creativity Center in Deir Ammar Refugee Camp near Ramallah, the students of Deir Ammar Elementary school organized visits and meetings with parents and officials in Deir Ammar village with the aim of demanding the local community and officials to establish a sports and culture club for girls in the camp, after acquiring the consent and support of the parents.
As part of their program, the students viewed their presentation to the Itihad Municipality (Municipality of North-West Ramallah Villages), popular committees, the management of Deir Ammar camp, and deputy Gender supervisor in the UNRWA. The idea was met with much support as such to advance Palestinian women status, allowing participation in state building and social activities.
Ms. Hala Qubbaj from the Teacher Creativity Center emphasized that the request of the students is a procedural step in the “Yes She Can” Project, aiming to create space for girls in the public sphere, such that this space manifests their true aspirations and strategic needs. Qubbaj mentioned that this project provides the students the needed knowledge in gender and leadership issues, disseminating the action-learning methodology, and campaign management. Qubbaj stressed the need to mainstream such projects, supporting Palestinian women and providing them with the opportunity to be creative leaders.
