Parent’s Councils in Bethlehem and Northern Hebron

Ministry of Education and Teacher Creativity Center meet Parent’s Councils in Bethlehem and Northern Hebron.
Mohamed Al-Sabah, Director of the Sports Activity and Social Council in the Ministry of Education spoke on the philosophy and direction of the Ministry in its strategic plan to achieve a sustainable partnership between the ministry, schools and the community represented by parents’ councils in order to contribute to creating a safe educational environment, stimulating creativity and excellence in Palestine.
The opening session of the activation of parent councils was organized by the Teacher Creativity Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Education - General Directorate of the activities of education in Bethlehem, with the participation of members of parents’ councils and principals of three schools participating in the project from the directorates of Bethlehem and northern of Hebron, in addition to heads of departments of educational activities in those districts.
Abdullah Shkarna, Director of Education in Bethlehem, pointed out in his speech the importance of activating the role of parents’ councils in supporting and enhancing the educational process through the integrating the relationship between the home and the school, in order to follow-up with the student more inclusively. He called upon the parents of the participants in the training session to invest their efforts in promoting and supporting education in schools.
Fadel Soliman, project manager of the activation of parents’ councils at the Teacher Creativity Center, said that this session is the fifth in a series of training courses carried out by the Teacher Creativity Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, which will include the parents’ boards in all the schools of all districts in the country, within the the "activation of parents’ councils" project, which is implemented by the Teacher Creativity Center, and funded by Oxfam Quebec; aiming to promote and activate the role of parents’ boards in the educational process in Palestine.
Safa’ Barghouthi, coordinator of courses in the Ministry of Education, has confirmed that the educational process in all its dimensions is an equation of interacting elements, in which all roles are divided among several parties; the most important parties are the home, the community, and the school, in which all parties cooperate and complement one another to convey the mission, represented in creating safe educational environments that stimulates children and students to reach the desired outcome of excellence and creativity. She also noted that this can only be achieved through closer links between home and school through the creation of a real and effective partnership between them. Overseeing the training sessions is a specialized crew of trainers: Safa’ Barghouthi, Fadel Soliman, Asad Abd Al-Aziz, and Muayyad Afaneh.
The training program includes providing the participants with skills in the methodology for determining the educational problems, the mechanisms of choosing the principle problem in schools, and the best proposed solutions. This is in addition to the skills and expertise in important topics such as communication, and explaining the characteristics of the learning environment that enhances children's rights.
The training also includes an explanation of the mechanisms for selecting the project that will be implemented by the parents’ council in each school in order to create a safe school environment that respect children's rights. Also, through the training program a debate concerning the instructions of the Ministry of Education relating to parents’ board will be utilized to clarify the mechanisms further.
